Our Pet Wellness Program

The pet wellness exam gives us the opportunity to set a baseline of health for your pet and determine what other treatments will be necessary to keep them as healthy as possible. Our wellness visits cover multiple topics for every stage of your pet’s life, including:

Wellness visits are the perfect time for you to ask questions and bring up any concerns you may have about keeping your pet healthy. Client education is important to us, and we want to you to be fully involved in your pet’s lifelong care. When you bring them in for their annual check-up, our veterinarian will consult your pet’s medical record to assess their current health, and compare it to their last visit. This makes it easier for us to identify any unusual changes in their condition, and work quickly to diagnose and correct the problem.

Pet Parasite Prevention

Here in South Florida, there are many different types of external and internal parasites living in our environment. We need to test for and protect our pets from these parasites. We recommend testing every 6-12 months depending on your pet’s lifestyle, and keeping them on preventatives so they can remain healthy and parasite-free.

External parasites: Fleas, ticks, mites, and mosquitoes are present here year-round, and can cause a lot of problems for untreated cats, dogs, and exotic pets. Mosquitoes can transmit heartworm disease, fleas transmit tapeworms, and ticks may carry serious bacterial diseases like anaplasma and ehrlichia.

Internal parasites: Hookworms and roundworms are very common in the environment, and can cause potentially serious issues for pets if left untreated. These worms live in the pet’s intestines and feed on blood. These parasites can also be passed to humans through contact with infected feces.

Preventative Pet Diagnostics

Our pets can’t talk, and they often don’t show signs when something is wrong. This is why we highly recommend diagnostics on a routine basis for the prevention or early detection of certain conditions. These can include bloodwork and X-rays, and will enable us to diagnose potential diseases before they can become serious issues. Please see our diagnostics page for additional information.

Keeping up with your pet’s annual wellness and prevention visits ensures that you will both have many happy years together. Pets are family, too, and they deserve the best care we can give them. If you have any questions about our pet wellness plans or would like to make an appointment, please give us a call any time at (954) 748-2002.
