What to Expect from an Externship
We believe in fostering the next generation of veterinarians through mentorship, collaboration, and exposure to high-quality medicine. Our externship program is designed to be both immersive and educational, offering students opportunities to engage in:
- Physical exams and diagnostic workups
- Surgical procedures and anesthesia monitoring
- Client communication and case discussions
- Care for a variety of species, including:
- dogs
- cats
- reptiles
- amphibians
- birds
- small mammals
- exotic carnivores
- primates
- small ruminants
- fish
In addition to clinical practice, our hospital partners with local exotic pet facilities, specialty pet stores, and state agencies on native and invasive species projects. These collaborations provide students with a broader view of the veterinary field, including wildlife medicine, conservation efforts, and the exotic pet industry.
