Wellness and preventative care are an important part of your pet’s healthcare regimen and help us maintain a detailed, consistent medical record. At Welleby Veterinary Hospital, we believe pet wellness care in Sunrise is much more than just an exam. Our friendly, knowledgeable team will work side-by-side with you to determine the best wellness plan for your pet’s specific needs, which may include vaccinations, routine diagnostics, and more. Pet Parasite Prevention
Here in South Florida, there are many different types of external and internal parasites living in our environment. We need to test for and protect our pets from these parasites. We recommend testing every 6-12 months depending on your pet’s lifestyle, and keeping them on preventatives so they can remain healthy and parasite-free.

External Parasites
Fleas, ticks, mites, and mosquitoes are present here year-round and can cause a lot of problems for untreated cats, dogs, and exotic pets. Mosquitoes can transmit heartworm disease, fleas transmit tapeworms, and ticks may carry serious bacterial diseases like anaplasma and Ehrlichia.

Internal Parasites
Hookworms and roundworms are very common in the environment and can cause potentially serious issues for pets if left untreated. These worms live in the pet’s intestines and feed on blood. These parasites can also be passed to humans through contact with infected feces.
